At The Heart Of It All Is The Customer

Hands up if you can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. They say time flies when you are having fun, time flies because you are getting old and time flies when you are busy. So with all these being true for me then time feels like it has flown by really fast.

It is good then to take a breath as we close out 2015 and look back at what we have achieved. When you are in the thick of software development with incremental releases throughout the year it is easy to forget about what has been added to your product. Almost as soon as you have done a release it becomes your new base code and then it is all hands on deck for the features of the next release in the plan.

Some of our oldest customers have seen the software being developed for 10 years but I bet the vast majority couldn’t tell you what has changed, only that it constantly improves as more features are added. They are not alone either, I couldn’t tell you when a certain feature was introduced or improved. Thankfully we keep a very detailed changelog for our releases so when I need to look back at 2015 it is quite easy for me to see what has been added to our software.

It’s not in my nature to be self-congratulating but this year’s releases have been epic. Actually it is the awesome technical team that need the congratulations. We have always talked about browser technology being a key limiting factor in web applications. Certainly as we continue with our no Flash policy, HTML5 was a game changer. We just had to wait for the browser developers to catch up and thankfully Microsoft announced end of life for, the nearly 7 years old, Internet Explorer 8.

That bit of news set us on our 2015 development plan, new features just for the end user, that take advantage of the HTML5 feature set. In fact in our most recent release, just a few days ago, we have given the end users the freedom to design products online like never before, of course we have introduced this in a way that allows our customers to decide how much freedom to give to their customers. To this day the features we have added this year to RTT are still typically achieved in applications by using Adobe Flash, but Flash is not a futureproof technology. RedTie strives for, and it succeeds at, never introducing any features that require the end user to install browser plugins.

If you have seen our software solution in the past, or if you are new to RedTie, it is well worth contacting us for a demo to see what has changed in the last 12 months.

Feature releases are only part of what we have been doing this year though, probably the most important thing is to help our customers grow their online business and for that I have to congratulate the support and account management team (our customers need plenty of credit too!). Just looking at the easiest to monitor aspect of growth, order volume, it always surprises me that year on year volumes can continue to grow at such a rate (double digit percentage wise year on year). It’s down to many things, new features help open up new business possibilities, great support from our team of experts help our customers find solutions for their customers and of course the seemingly unstoppable growth in online commerce.

So what of 2016 then? Well we are already hard at work for our first release next year and we are just about to jump to improved hardware to cope with the increase in demand. It is all very exciting but let’s see where we finish up this time next year. Which of course will be here sooner than we think.

Have a great holiday season and here’s to another great year in 2016!
